Why this is required

Oregon law (OAR 333-061) requires every backflow prevention assembly to be tested annually by an OHA-certified Backflow Assembly Tester. Property owners are responsible for scheduling it, and water purveyors have the authority to disconnect service for non-compliance. The Portland Water Bureau sends reminder letters each spring but does not perform tests itself.
